BBQ Part 4

If you have the time and plan a few weeks ahead, you want to spice up your party and make it more decorative. Decorations could include items such as lanterns, candles, fun place mats, and streamers. I am going to give you a few ideas from lighting to different decorations that will keep your party looking fancy.

A more complicated project you could try is a type of lighting, it’s called light columns. The following shopping list will tell you the tools you need for one light column, so multiple the list by however many light columns you want to make.

Shopping list:
  • Dowel- The dowel is the center of the light so you want to find one approximately 6 feet long and an inch in diameter.
  • 50 bulb string of lights.
  • 5 Paper or plastic lanterns. (14 inches in diameter)
  • Tape to tape the lanterns together.
  • Extension cord.

How To:
  1. Drive the dowel into the ground until it is sturdy, you don’t want the wind to blow it over.
  2. Run the 50 bulb string of lights up one side and down the other.
  3. Secure the lights to the pole with tape. Tip: masking tape works best.
  4. Stack the lanterns over the stick, as you go tape the lanterns together
  5. Plug them in and you are ready to go.

Since fall is the season where the leaves are changing color and falling, a fun fall idea is a leaf table cloth. This is simple however it will take some time waiting for the paint to dry.

Shopping list:

  • Plain colored table cloth. You want to choose a solid color of table cloth, keep in mind on what color you want your leaves and this will help you decide what color of paint to buy.
  • Fabric paint. These colors will be the colors of your leaves.
  • Leaves. You can buy fake ones of just use the ones in your back yard. When picking your leaves, try to pick ones that have prominent features.

How To:

  1. Lay your table cloth on a flat surface.
  2. Paint the back of the leaves with the fabric paint.
  3. Press the leaf, paint side down onto the table cloth. Hold the leaf down for 5 seconds. When you lift the leaf off the table cloth don’t worry if the leaf imprint isn’t perfect, it adds character. Repeat this step as many times as you like.

Not only will you have great food at your party but now you will have some great decorations. Martha Stewarts website has some other great ideas!

  1. Those are great ideas Kim! My sister- in law is having her baby shower coming up in a few weeks and I have been dubbed the assistant planner, so part of that requires getting decorations and themes ready. Trust me, this is harder than you think. (she doesn't want everything to be pink just because it's a girl).
After reading those ideas you mentioned I may consider using them by altering the themes slightly to attent to a baby theme. The lights sounds cool regardless of theme, and the leaves can become some sort of stensil.
I am excited now to start shopping, and will have to go look at more ideas on the website. Thanks!
